Course Overview

The G189 Mine Site Supervisor Refresher course (also known as S123 or S1 S2 S3) is a nationally recognised refresher program designed for individuals who currently hold a Mine Supervisor qualification and need to maintain their competency and currency in line with industry and legislative requirements.

This refresher ensures supervisors remain up to date with the latest safety legislation, risk management processes, and communication practices required under the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (Qld) and the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 (Qld). The course reinforces critical supervisory responsibilities in managing workplace safety, conducting investigations, and maintaining effective team communication.

Core Units of Competency

The refresher program aligns with the original G189 – Mine Site Supervisor Skill Set and maintains the following units of competency:

• RIIRIS301E — Apply risk management processes
• RIIWHS301E — Conduct safety and health investigations
• RIICOM301E — Communicate information

These units represent the key supervisory skills required to identify hazards, assess risk, investigate incidents, and communicate effectively within the mining and resource sectors.
