PUASAR025 – Undertake confined space rescue

Course Overview

This nationally recognised combined course equips participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills to safely participate in general rescue operations and conduct rescues from confined spaces. It combines the competencies from PUASAR022 – Participate in a rescue operation and PUASAR025 – Undertake confined space rescue, providing a comprehensive foundation in emergency response for high-risk work environments such as mining, construction, and heavy industry.

The program is ideal for emergency response team members, safety officers, and workers who may be required to respond to workplace incidents involving confined spaces or general rescue situations.

Units of Competency

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the following units:

• PUASAR022 – Participate in a rescue operation
• PUASAR025 – Undertake confined space rescue

These units are nationally recognised and form part of the Public Safety Training Package (PUA), contributing to qualifications such as the RII30719 Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue.

Course Content

Participants will learn to:

• Prepare for and participate in rescue operations
• Assess and manage emergency situations safely
• Use rescue equipment and systems effectively
• Conduct confined space entry and retrieval operations
• Apply breathing apparatus and atmospheric monitoring procedures
• Implement hazard identification, risk control, and safe work practices
• Communicate effectively during rescue operations and debriefs

Training aligns with current Australian Standards, WHS legislation, and industry codes of practice for confined space entry and rescue activities.

Delivery and Assessment

This course is delivered through a combination of theory learning and practical assessments that replicate real workplace rescue scenarios. Learners participate in simulated emergency drills that reinforce hands-on rescue skills and procedural knowledge.

Assessment includes practical demonstrations, scenario-based exercises, and written theory components to confirm competency. All assessments are conducted by qualified trainers and assessors with extensive emergency response experience.

Outcome

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for PUASAR022 – Participate in a rescue operation and PUASAR025 – Undertake confined space rescue, recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and applicable across multiple industries where confined space and rescue operations are undertaken.
