S11 – S11 Induction Course
The S11 Mining Induction Training, also known as the RIISS00034 Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set (Standard 11), is an industry-recognised safety and induction course required for individuals looking to work in Queensland’s surface coal mining sector. This comprehensive course is designed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge to work safely and effectively within a mining environment, meeting the regulatory requirements specified in Recognised Standard 11 under the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999.
Introduction:
This skill set provides the fundamental safety competencies required to enter and work in a Queensland coal mine under direct supervision. It ensures all new and re-entering workers have a baseline understanding of key legislative obligations, risk management principles, emergency response procedures, and communication protocols specific to surface coal mine operations.
Target Audience:
The S11 Mining Induction Training is ideal for:
- Individuals new to the mining industry who need to meet the safety training requirements to gain employment as a coal mine worker (CMW).
- Contractors, service providers, or trade personnel entering Queensland’s surface coal mining sector who need to understand and comply with site safety regulations.
- Personnel seeking to refresh their Standard 11 qualification (recommended every 5 years by the Act, though site-specific requirements may vary).
Learning Outcomes:
- Upon successful completion, the participant will be able to
- Effectively communicate and comply with instructions in a mine workplace.
- Identify and apply relevant work health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures.
- Recognise, assess, and control local risks and hazards using site-specific processes.
- Comply with site work processes and procedures, including isolation and tagging systems.
- Apply initial response first aid to a casualty in a mining environment.
- Respond effectively to local emergencies and incidents, including fire and evacuation.
Learning Methods:
This course is delivered through a Blended Learning approach, combining online, self-paced theory with classroom-based practical assessments. The theoretical component is completed online at your own pace, followed by a practical assessment held in person at our training facility every Friday.
Please Note: The online theory must be completed prior to attending the classroom for your practical assessment.
